More A Way Of Life… Look, this is just between you and me

Iíve just spent a fascinating hour (spot the irony) shelling prawns and pondering the strange use of the word ëdeveiningí which is used in prawn recipes for an act that is actually de-guttingÖ

Anyway, this culinary effort is in aid of a Caribbean meal that Chris and I are preparing for Alison and Philippa this evening. Weíve been wanting to do this since we were in Barbados earlier in the year. So: citrus-marinated prawns, spicy steamed flying fish with roast sweet potato, and chocolate rum cake to end ñ and of course lots of rum punch to help it all down.

Maybe not ëlotsíÖmy motherís visiting tomorrowÖ.

Mildly amusingly, Ev, who’s one

Mildly amusingly, Ev, who's one of the guys behind Blogger, is looking to move to a new office in San Francisco, and wonders if anyone has any space in the city they'd like to share..... Now who can I think of who has an office in SF that they're not making full use of....?

Wimbledon Watch ñ When on

Wimbledon Watch ñ When on earth did Goran Ivanisivic lighten up? Running around without his top on, making tricksy split-screen pieces with the Beeb, *playing to the crowd*???? Can this really be the same miserable bugger of old?

So the week ends, and the office is ready for habitation ñ desks set up, phones in, all we need to do now is actually start sitting in there on Monday morning. Of course, this is only temporary space, while the unit weíre going to be in properly is cleared out and redecorated, but itís a start.

Barbara and I went to

Barbara and I went to see Dave last night, and heard that itís confirmed that heíll be going home on Friday. Then we went for some food and drink and realised that there are few things as annoying as Chelsea yuppies en masse.

Wimbledon Watch (Oblique) ñ www.mydoglookslikepetesampras.com

Wimbledon Watch - not oblique - I gather that the Sampras/Cowan match was a bit of a cracker, but I missed it - must try and catch the highlights.

Neil Gaiman has a Blog that he's using to journal (at the moment) the promotional tour he's on for his new book American Gods.

It's 11.30 at night - how can it still be this hot?

Bowling update - been for a few games with Barnaby and Mike this evening and I'm happy to report that the form which was so conspicuous by its absence last week made a partial return, allowing me to place a first, second, and third, with three strikes in a row in my winning game. Hopefully a sign of continued improvement.

My *word* but itís been

My *word* but itís been hot today ñ even when Iíve been able to sit quietly doing nothing I've still had sweat pouring out of me. How those tennis players have been managing, I donít know. I have my red aeroplane fan cooling me as I type.

Wimbledon Watch ñ The Arvind Parmar match was fantastic ñ the last set was real edge-of-the-seat stuff.

Dave update, particularly for those people at his former workplace who I gather arenít easily getting updates, but who I know are interested from calls and mails Iíve had: Heís *not* losing his legÖ.(Who would even suggest that? You'd think someone wished him ill...) Heís been walking on his crutches more today, and is in less pain. The hospital are talking about him going home on Friday, which is cheering him up greatly. Warm fuzzy messages will, I'm sure be appreciated.

I did a train journey

I did a train journey to Milton Keynes today, and on the way back, the train stopped for 10 minutes for no explained reason (note for non-UK readers - this happens - just accept it), but it happened to stop beside a cornfield that was full of poppies - the English countryside retains its occasional ability to make my eyes widen in wonder.
