Somewhat against my better judgement, I watched the 'housemates-enter-the-house' programme that kicked off Big Brother 5 this evening, and oh dear oh dear oh dear.
Could Channel 4 be working any harder to create artificial conflict in an effort to avoid a re-run of the blandfest that was last year's extravaganza?
The first two people in were a screaming queen who hates asylum seekers and a former asylum seeker who hates homosexuals. Subtle minds are clearly at work here.
Add in to the mix the man who spent the evening in a thong, the man who thinks he's the smartest person they've ever had on the programme because he got four A grades at A level, the other gay man who is apparently irresistable to straight men (which is fortunate, because he's entriely resistable to at least this gay one), the radical feminist lesbian (who's called Kitten by the way: Ooooh - *radical*), the token would-be glamour model, the token black man, and a transsexual, and you can really see that a *lot* of thought went into this year's contestant selection.

Now here’s an interesting one..

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/tv_and_radio/3766095.stm
Audience figures slump..!
So, looks like their cynical ploy of deliberately creating what they
thought would be a fiery mix, has backfired.
I have ended up each time the show has been aired as a
BB addict..and always strange how it’s happened, gradually being
hooked.. I’ve been
gradually drawn in, and found it becomes interesting as the show goes
on, and the “real people” begin to appear from behind the facade they
manufactured in order to get on the show in the first place..
This time around..boy..what a bunch of stereotypes..
Interestingly, I thought that Nadia..the TS entrant..was one of the
least stereotypical of the lot..but maybe the presenters couldnt’ see
past the fact she was Trans when they auditioned..so she had been
stereotyped, rather than had stereotyped herself, which is exactly
what it appears some of the other entrants have done..Marco for
one..never seen such an overacted “screaming queen”…
Bin watching Hells’ kitchen instead
And it looks as if a large proportion of the population has had the same
idea, and it’s just because this time around the BB lot just aren’t a
particularly nice bunch of people..most of them anyway.
Last time around, the show was fairly dull, but did I think have a
soporific quality, as u.k tvstyle have pointed out,
http://www.uktvstyle.co.uk/WhatsOn/WatchingPaintDry.cfm
but I quite liked that..TV as wallpaper..soothes
the brain after a ragged day..
still, early days yet..will be a laff tho’ if Audience figures
continue to fall..they’ll have to do something pretty desperate to
get people watching again..
Get the Homophobe to murder the racist, or vice versa perhaps.!!

Hi.
Not quite the Murders I predicted then on BB5.
but almost.
death threats were made, and it’s turning out to be even more of a cynical and manipulative exercise that it first appeared.
If anyone is still interested in this farce.
some gossip.
Sections of the Trans community have made formal complaints, both to the Police and to Endemol regarding some threats made to Nadia by other housemates, and her treatment in general..did notice on BB last night that Davina whatsit was very careful in the manner she referred to Nadia..
(although possibly not careful enough..the prodution team are probably getting sick of having their wrists slapped by the TS pressure groups).
and..
Looks like those more obsessive fans who belong to the Big Brother forum are beginning to rebel..one prominent member has been banned from the website..
+.
there’s this petition.

Oh..it would fill me with glee if BB5 collapsed around the ears of the production team.
