More A Way Of Life… Look, this is just between you and me

Moody

Sorry - the fallout from my weekend's rather negative feelings have persisted and put me out of the mood to post.  I think I'm pretty much over it now though, so here's normal service.

Normal service in this context of course comes back to NANOWRIMO, and the clear acknowledgement that as today is the last day of November, and I haven't written anything since about the 8th, I have failed and failed quite spectacularly.

In my own defence, I knew that it was going to be a difficult month in which to do it for all sorts of immovable other activity reasons, and on top of that, truthfully, I'd let myself be persuaded to take it on when my heart wasn't really in it.  I should have stayed on the sidelines cheerleading.

Anyway, My Husband (who has also not finished) And I have decided that we'll do a writing month project of our own in the first half of next year.  The lovely Alice has already said she'd like to do the same, so we can have a little mutually supportive writing circle.

Anyway, as one of the writing circle from this time round pointed out, at least I have 8,000 words of me-produced fiction that I didn't have a month ago.

A Strange Sense Of Disillusionment

I had rather an odd weekend, which has left me feeling slightly at odds with myself over some "interpersonal matters".  It's hard to put into words without going into all the details, which I don't want to do here, but in a nutshell I found myself being treated in a way that I consider fairly shoddy, but the shoddiness of which I suspect passed the other party or parties involved by completely.

So now I don't know whether to make as big a deal of it with them as I feel I should, or just move on, acknowledging for myself at least that it's time to revise my view of the relationship and behave within it differently and perhaps more appropriately.

I know that none of this makes any sense to you, and don't worry about it - this is just me starting to work something through in my head.

Damn!

Dave Cockrum has died. The name won't mean anything to anyone who isn't a comics fan, but to those who are, the man who created the visuals for the New X-Men and a slew of Legionnaires, and who helped reinvigorate what were then both moribund concepts to the point where they were able to last decades more, is a real loss. Certainly he defined the look of my early comic art understanding to a far greater degree than many of his more lauded fellows, and though his style had fallen out of fashion in recent years (with Marvel Editor-In-Chief Joe Quesada having said that he wouldn't be employed by the Marvel of today), I doubt anyone would question his ownership of countless classic character designs, or his impact on some of the biggest titles in modern US comic history.

Sad now.

In My Surroundings

It's 6am and I'm watching three men drinking pints of Stella Artois.

I'm in an airport, which might possibly be deduced from my previous statement.

The men are Scottish, of which the same may well be true.

Six Little Words

Over at Falldog Towers, the man himself has been musing on Hemingway's Six Word Novel concept, and comes to the conclusion that it doesn't work.  I'm probably in agreement, but of course it's the kind of thing that requires an attempt.

"When?"

"Yesterday"

"Who?"

"Someone"

"So...?"

"Goodbye."

More Whedon Buffy

Yes, I've decided to risk mentioning the man and his most famous creation again. After all, what could possibly go wrong?

Entertainment Weekly is carrying an interview with Joss Whedon about his upcoming projects, including the Wonder Woman film and a new Buffy comic series. In their (and his) own words:

Whedon, 42, is running the comic as if it were a TV show; after writing the first four issues (a premise-establishing pilot), he'll oversee other scribes who will write the remaining issues (think: episodes) in what is planned to be 25-to-30-issue saga. ''We're calling it season 8,'' says Whedon, ''and we're picking up almost right after season seven left off. I don't know exactly why it or how it happened. I just thought, 'Oh, I could do that! It would be fun!' It happens to me every now and then, and causes me to commit to things I really don't have time for.''

As long as 'Magic Jane' Espenson is one of the writing crew I'll be happy. Though it's safe to say I'll be picking this up no matter what. Full interview is over at the EW site.

Robert Altman, RIP

The BBC is reporting that Robert Altman's death has been announced.

I'm *desperately* depressed now.

Don’t Ask Why…

... but I've been looking at driving directions from Miami to the Kennedy Space Center, and brilliantly, it involves going via Jupiter.

Speaking Of ITV

Here's a sentence I never thought I'd use:  ITV look to be trying something actually different.

They're shortly going to be screening a couple of series which are paired in an unusual way across ITV1 and ITV2.  Echo Beach will be a new soap opera shown on ITV2, which will be preceded on ITV1 by Moving Wallpaper, a behind the scenes series showing the making of the main programme.

So far, so Doctor Who Confidential, I hear you say.  But the twist is that the 'factual' programme is also going to be fiction.  Creative drive for the whole thing coimes from Tony Jordan.  I'll admit I'm intrigued by the vision, though I worry for the execution.

B Sky Bah!

So Murdoch finally launches his long planned assault on UK terrestrial TV, apparently more as a spoiler to the Virgin/NTL bid than because he actually knows what to do with it.  I'm firmly of the opinion that it shouldn't be allowed, but no doubt the whole thing has been carefully calculated to stay inside whichever flimsy rules exist for the purpose of stopping such things.

One thing I did note though is one of the newspapers' description of ITV as "one of Europe's premier broadcasters" or something similar.

Dear God Europe, how unmitigatedly shit must the TV you're watching be if that's actually true?
