Damn!
Dave Cockrum has died. The name won't mean anything to anyone who isn't a comics fan, but to those who are, the man who created the visuals for the New X-Men and a slew of Legionnaires, and who helped reinvigorate what were then both moribund concepts to the point where they were able to last decades more, is a real loss. Certainly he defined the look of my early comic art understanding to a far greater degree than many of his more lauded fellows, and though his style had fallen out of fashion in recent years (with Marvel Editor-In-Chief Joe Quesada having said that he wouldn't be employed by the Marvel of today), I doubt anyone would question his ownership of countless classic character designs, or his impact on some of the biggest titles in modern US comic history.
Sad now.
