More Whedon Buffy

Yes, I've decided to risk mentioning the man and his most famous creation again. After all, what could possibly go wrong?

Entertainment Weekly is carrying an interview with Joss Whedon about his upcoming projects, including the Wonder Woman film and a new Buffy comic series. In their (and his) own words:

Whedon, 42, is running the comic as if it were a TV show; after writing the first four issues (a premise-establishing pilot), he'll oversee other scribes who will write the remaining issues (think: episodes) in what is planned to be 25-to-30-issue saga. ''We're calling it season 8,'' says Whedon, ''and we're picking up almost right after season seven left off. I don't know exactly why it or how it happened. I just thought, 'Oh, I could do that! It would be fun!' It happens to me every now and then, and causes me to commit to things I really don't have time for.''

As long as 'Magic Jane' Espenson is one of the writing crew I'll be happy. Though it's safe to say I'll be picking this up no matter what. Full interview is over at the EW site.

  1. I always get them mixed up, but… Espenson’s the good one, and Marty Noxious is the one who broke season 6, yes?

  2. Pretty much, only I’d describe season six as badly bruised rather than broken.

  3. Yes, Jane E’s first episode was Band Candy, which gave her a lot to live up to subsequently, and she rose to the challenge brilliantly.

And I don’t have such negative feelings towards Season Six as a whole as many people (Tara’s death notwithstanding), but over the years Noxon wrote some of the most diabolically bad episodes of Buffy that ever saw daylight.

  4. dammit, I hadn’t got to Tara’s death yet. Last time there were comments about whedon, it was all just 16 year olds pleading for contact. Damn it. The last I saw, Willow had just been on a massive drugs, umm, sorry magic, binge.

    must watch faster ;-)

  5. Hello. I am Mike’s watcher. Please do not respond to the fool’s posting with any spoilers. He is a wayward slayer and will undergo strict training sessions as soon as he surfaces (he’s been an excellent slayer til now).

A buffy series 8?! Get in. Bust forbid my planet as soon as poss (my own watcher has been on about this awhile now in fact).

Reading this back, it appears I really need to get a life. Do something constructive.

    Like having a girlfriend.

  6. Watched the end of season 6 last night, thought it was ace! No spoilers in case of any other unfortunates stumbling along this ;-) only 2 seasons of angel and 1 of buffy to go!
