Netscape 6 and upwards likewise. Internet Explorer 5.x does strange things with the fonts, and there are odd gaps around the place due to Microsoft's shocking misinterpretation of some basic CSS rules, but it's pretty close.

Global Internet Crash

We've been having some trouble with our connection over the last week or so, and the building's telecoms people have been trying to sort it out. So just now I had a phone call from the receptionist, just to let me know that "The Internet will be down for a few minutes shortly".

I hope you weren't all inconvenienced too badly.

I have to confess that one of my frequently used expressions at work is "The internet's broken..."

Hope you and your connection are feeling better.

i so hate people that say that....

it's like saying "the whole of america" can't see a particular site as a result of one persons DNS issues....

but yes the most common and inaccurate phrase has to be "the internet is broken"

hate it when that happens

I like the phrase personally. Obviously it's an absurd thing to say, but then when you can't reach it, it may just as well be broken. And who can be bothered to stick the word "access" into a sentence when you'll know perfectly well what I mean without it ...

Actually...
I don't mind this sort of phrasing at all.
being in charge of the firewall, vpn, adsl link etc. etc.
I'm the one who gets the phone calls of the ilk.
"is there a problem with the web".
my answer is usually.
"that's highly likely..goodbye".

Then....if the prob continues..( and I'm just too busy to bother about making sure, at that particular moment, that the sales team can get thru' to the football sites)...

"Is there still a problem with the web"

me..."hmmmm..there may well be, my suspicion is, that there some name resolution difficulties currently, not really much I can do about it"

of course the best thing about being told "the internet is broken" is that you can use the standard help support respsonse of "i'll just reboot it for you"

;-)

The internet is broken again.

I think it's name resolution problems. LoL.

You are at the top of google's list for "Internet Crash".

You have probably become a celebrity overnight.

I giggled at your more a way of life article.

Something to do with Zonelabs? MY isp has blocked all DNS lookups to thier site.

I think it is one person's DNS issues.
