FAVOURITE BOOK, FILM, AND PLAY
Erm - Book: Impossible to say, but Gielguid's autobiography An Actor and His Time stays close to the top of my list pretty much the whole time. Film: Casablanca, always. Play: Maybe Beautiful Thing, by Jonathan Harvey (though maybe my recollection of it is clouded by how much I love the film version).
ANCHOVIES - FAIR OR FOUL?
Fair - try this if you don't believe me: blanch some fine beans, then put them in the middle of a sheet of foil. Season with fresh-ground black pepper and sea salt, and add some whole cherry tomatoes and anchovies (fresh if possible, if not, rinse the type you get in jars thoroughly). Drizzle a little olive oil over the top and fold the foil up into a sealed package. Put into a preheated oven (180º) for about 15 minutes. Serve with grilled fish and crusty bread.
